Heat Pump vs. Furnace

As a homeowner, you know how important it is to keep your Indian Trail, NC home as comfortable as possible. When it comes to choosing the right heating system for your home, you have a few options. Among these options are furnaces and heat pumps. Below the Air Central of the Carolinas team will go over some of the major differences of heat pumps and furnaces to help you decide which is best for you and your Indian Trail, NC home.
Heat Pump vs. Furnace
Furnaces and heat pumps both do the same thing, heat your home. However, they do so in different ways. They also require different maintenance schedules and take up different amount of space. Additionally, they also have different energy efficiencies and heating capabilities.
Heat Pumps
A heat pump doesn’t generate heat, it actually transfers heat. In the winter, it transfers heat energy from outdoors to indoors and vice versa in the summertime. Heat pumps are typically less expensive to operate due to their energy efficiency. A heat pump will cost more upfront to install but the energy savings and convenience make the investment worth it. Heat pumps aren’t as effective at heating your home when the weather gets close to freezing or below.
Furnaces
A furnace is a type of heart used to distribute heat evenly across your Indian Trail, NC home. The most typical fuel sources for furnaces are either natural gas or propane. Furnaces have longer lifespans and require less maintenance. They are very effective at heating your home despite the temperature outside. However, furnaces aren’t as environmentally friendly as heat pumps.
